We have a new pastor, Tim. He is younger than my youngest child. He is married to Theresa (my mom’s name), they have five children, and the eldest is a writer (which kind of thrills me). Pastor Tim is sharp – I like him a lot. His leadership is going to be very good for our young congregation and there are enough of us “old-timers” to keep it interesting! He is a man of God and God has a very excellent plan for our church – I am excited to see it all unfold!
Sonday’s message was titled, “It’s not about direction – it’s about dust!” I took a lot of notes and I knew there would be a blogpost. Here we go!
Jesus and his band of followers stirred up a lot of dust! Two thousand years ago neither the roads, the walkways, nor the paths were paved in asphalt – just good old dusty dirt. Feet were always dirty and I’m sure laundry day was one muddy mess.
Where no oxen are, the trough is clean…Proverbs 14.4
Show me a spotless kitchen and I’ll guess the residents aren’t cooks!
Hanging out with Christ gets dusty. Gets messy. Gets risky.
My friend’s friend just lost his job at a large VA hospital – he was “caught” – a patient asked him to pray with him and apparently someone was watching and bam…probation…hearing…fired.
He was found dusty.
I walked up on a group of peers one day, on the sidewalk, outside the Chamber of Commerce office (where I worked) and immediately a hush came over them. Shh…Susan doesn’t like these kinds of jokes.
I was considered dusty.
It takes courage to be a Christ-follower.
A lot of dust is stirred up.
Am I willing to get a little messy?
Are we willing to get dusty?
